Man charged in Swanville explosion

A Topsham man has been arrested in a Sunday night explosion in Swanville.

Patrick Kane, 20, was charged with arson and violating his conditions of release, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The explosion happened in the back of a pickup truck on Swan Lake Avenue about 7:30 p.m., Moss said Monday afternoon.

Police intercepted and detained Kane in Gardiner. He was out on bail for a previous arson charge related to three buildings that burned in Woolwich and Dresden in April 2024.

Kane is being held without bail at the Waldo County Jail in Belfast, pending a court hearing on the new charges.

The explosion remains under investigation.
